I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and organic. Does the music come first, or do you focus on the lyrics the most?

Answer: For me, the topic comes first.I have a long list of things I’d like to write about and then when I hear the right song for a topic I start writing. But when we are all together at practice the song writing process starts with our lead guitarist, Jesse. He comes to practice with a new song or an idea and starts playing then the rest of us just latch on to something and start jamming. Maybe a new song will happen and maybe it won’t. But when I start hearing a melody I “hum” it during practice for a little bit, have the guys record the scratch track, listen to it over and over and over in my car and then in couple weeks I’ve got the words and we are ready to put final touches on it and share it with everyone at a show.

Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?

Answer: Yes, we preform live quite often here in Baltimore, MD. I try to book us at a minimum of once per month. Two or three gigs a month is really pushing it. We looooove playing out but for us right now we are really focused on recording. The more time we spend out playing gigs the less time we have at practice making and “perfecting” the songs. Plus we just got a new rhythm guitarist, Ronnie and we are getting him all caught up. But to answer your question I am 100% more comfortable on stage. Matter of fact, the studio is one of my least favorite places. I enjoy the outcome of studio work and we need to get in there to get new music out, just for me personally I hate doing my parts all alone in a room where everyone can hear me. Our bass player, Greg…the opposite! He would live in a studio if he could.

If you could only pick one song to make a “first impression” on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?

Answer: Our song that we just released “Stolen Innocence” is a really good first impression. The song features not only myself, but Jesse’s vocals, a catchy chorus and the songs is honest and a little disturbing which is how I write all our songs. We also have 2 new songs – just written about 2 months ago called “Porcelain Crown” and “Forgive Me Not” that I can not wait to get out to people. Those are also songs that we feel like represents where we are as a band right now. It’s taken some time for us to figure out where we fit in, in our music scene and after 3 years of being a band it’s all starting to come together. Our newest songs are clearly different from the first few songs that we wrote when the band started. I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable opening up and actually writing honestly about the things I want to write about. Jesse has begun laying down his vocals which make our music more in your face and brutal and we are really tight musically. What does it take to be “innovative” in music?Answer: I think in order to be innovative in music a band or artist needs to just be themselves. The commercial music industry is full of cookie-cutter bands that have been made in factories and pumped out through major music labels then shoved down our throats on FM radio. It all sounds the same! But if a band sticks to their guns and refused to conform to what is radio friendly then that’s true innovation. So many of the bands that myself and the rest of Sweet Suicide enjoy are innovators in the music industry. Artist and bands that say “Fuck what everyone wants, I’m making music my way” and they are successful because of it. Bands like our drummer Moses’ and Jesse’s favorite – The Faceless. That band is so brutal and original. It’s seriously a breath of fresh meal air to hear them and see them live. I think it’s even easier for a local band to be innovative, we have no one breathing down our necks and telling us what to write. The only people we have to please is ourselves! If a band wants to go the radio friendly route…that’s fine, do what makes you happy but for OUR band we just want to make and play music our way, with our words and be truthful and brutal.

Any upcoming release or tour your way?

Answer: We have a few shows booked in Baltimore, MD

April 5th at Club Orpheus

April 18th at Chapala’s

May 4th at The House Of Rock

But we are open to traveling a bit and starting to branch out to other cities. As far as releases, like I mentioned above. We just put out a new song called “Stolen Innocence” it’s available on our Facebook page, Reverbnation, Soundcloud and we have a YouTube page with a lyric video. All of which you can find through our Facebook page or just do a search for “Sweet Suicide Baltimore.” We have merch and tickets to upcoming shows for sale. “Stolen Innocence” will be available on iTunes very soon. Also, I was recently mentioned in a new book that celebrates women in metal it is titled “Not just tits in a corset.” It was released in March 2014 and I’m so excited and honored to be one of just a few women in the book who is not signed to a major music label. And to be mentioned along side of some of the greatest women in metal is still very unreal to me. It’s a real pleasure!

June 12th 2012 "Their new single "December" Is now available for download on their website. This is their first original song written by the members of the band. They are starting find their sound and as you can listen from their current track "December" they're well on their way of becoming a band to keep your eye on. Being that Sweet Suicide is a Female-fronted band also adds that extra unique quality to the ensemble. "December" clearly has dark tone with a heavy rock/metal sound to back it up. And then you add to it the vocals of Cindy Parr now you have an original Baltimore, Maryland sound. If you love bands like Evanescence, Shinedown, A Perfect Circle, Paradise Lost, Stone Sour & Halestorm then you'll definitely like this band a lot! "

“Local Baltimore bands can be very unique. Female-fronted, Sweet Suicide is not your typical bar band from Charm City. Cindy (vocals), Mike (guitar), Jesse (guitar), Greg (bass) and Moses (drums) make up band. They are a family and a unit that seems to click with one another on just about every level. From kicking the crap out of each other to almost every member being seen naked, these are guys (and gal) are still a young group but the maturity in the way they view themselves and the music they are writing is certainly going to make some head turns.”- Clayton Lewis, http://www.theprocrastinatingmusician.com/ (Dec 10, 2011)

"Sweet Suicide is a female fronted metal band from Baltimore, MD. Made up of Cindy (Vocal), Jesse (Guitar), Greg (Bass) and Moses (Drums). They offer soft melodic female vocals along with shredding guitar riffs and male backing harmonies/growls. Relativity new to the Baltimore scene they have already blazed a path and show no signs of stopping."
